Specialty Print

Some print projects go beyond traditional layout and require a deeper understanding of how pieces are built and produced. The work on this page features projects that combine creative thinking with production knowledge, including scanimation, die cuts, custom folding structures, and retail packaging dielines. Each piece was designed with careful consideration for materials, manufacturing, and real-world use.

Scanimation Annual Report Cover

Interactive sleeve cover created for a Valley Forge annual report. I designed the scanimation animation and engineered the spacing of the vertical bars to reveal the event theme as the sleeve moves across the cover.

The piece also features spot UV varnish and a custom die cut of the Valley Forge icon, adding another level of dimensional detail. I prepared all production files and worked within die cut tolerances and print alignment limits to ensure the animation effect functioned correctly in print.

Retail Packaging Die Line

Custom packaging die line developed for PerformTex kinesiology tape products used in both wholesale distribution and retail placement through Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The previous packaging placed the hanging tab on the back of the box, which caused the packaging to sag over time when displayed on retail hooks. I redesigned the structure by moving the hang tab to the center of the package, distributing the product weight more evenly, and reducing long-term stress on the packaging.

Early prototypes tested the center-tab concept on heavier packaged products. While the initial structure revealed some issues, it validated the center-hang approach and led to the development of a new structural solution tailored specifically for the kinesiology tape packaging.

The final structure was engineered to stay within existing production sheet sizes, ensuring the redesign did not increase manufacturing costs. I also reduced the number of glue tabs, simplifying assembly and lowering production materials.

The final dieline was used across both PerformTex wholesale packaging and Dick’s Sporting Goods retail packaging systems.

Tabbed Die-Cut Educational Booklet

Educational booklet developed for a pharmaceutical client in partnership with an agency. Designed as a doctor–patient communication tool explaining advanced renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer).

The project required designing a 7 × 9" spiral-bound booklet with die-cut section tabs, while staying within strict page count and size specifications.

I developed the tab system and page structure to ensure each section aligned correctly with the die-cut tabs. I also sourced and edited imagery and created the supporting graphics used throughout the booklet while preparing the files for print production.

Angled-Cut Foldout Menu

Foldout menu designed for Neto’s Pizza, featuring a unique angled opening that reveals both the pizza and salad sections at first glance.

Instead of using a custom die, the structure was created using two straight cuts and strategic fold marks, allowing the piece to achieve a distinctive shape while keeping production simple and cost-efficient.

With no food photography available for the new restaurant, I designed the cover using a typographic word pattern that highlights the handcrafted ingredients and flavors of the menu. I also created the brand identity and supporting graphic assets used throughout the piece while preparing the files for print production.
